ICE Technology Education Advocate of the Year
In 2009, Indiana Computer Educators (ICE) will celebrate 29 years of service to Indiana computer educators and and in the fall of 2008, ICE will sponsor its twenty-fourth annual Teacher of the Year award, given to an outstanding classroom teacher, and it's sixth annual Technology Education Advocate award, presented to an outstanding advocate for technology who does not serve as a full-time K-12 classroom teacher.
Do you know of someone in your district who has made a significant impact on students through the use of computers or other high technology/media? Do you have an instructional aide who manages the school computer lab; a technician who always is willing to help solve problems with a smile on his/her face; a staff developer who helped you integrate technology into that social studies lesson; or maybe an administrator who not only supports, but also models technology use in your building or district? These are the kinds of people we are looking for as candidates for the Technology Education Advocate award. We would like to recognize and honor such teachers or advocates. Please look around and consider nominating someone outstanding in your district.
A school district, school corporation or school may have more than one nominee for either award. The nominee must be a current member of ICE to be considered. Self-nominations are also accepted and encouraged. Nominees for either award are only eligible to win once every five (5) years. Both the Teacher of the Year and Technology Education Advocate of the Year award criteria are aligned to the ISTE criteria for their national awards. The criteria for the Technology Education Advocate of the Year award is listed below.
A committee of educators from across the state will evaluate the entries and name a winner in each category. They will be invited to attend the 2009 ICE conference in Indianapolis and each will receive a complimentary conference registration. They will be recognized at the keynote luncheon featuring Ian Jukes on Wednesday, January 28, 2009. The winners will each receive an engraved plaque and a $500 stipend.

Technology Education Advocate of the Year Criteria
1. The nominee must be a school, school district or school corporation employee and is an advocate for technology in their school, district or corporation but does not serve as a full-time K-12 classroom teacher.
2. The nominee's work has had a significant, positive impact on technology use in education; locally, regionally, statewide, nationally, or worldwide.
3. The nominee has made efforts to involve the community in the initiative or program to facilitate partnerships with business and/or legislative initiations to advance the use of technology in education.
4. The nominee works tirelessly to genuinely improve the quality of education.
5. The nominee has integrated planning in an effort to improve education through the use of technology.
6. The quality of education and/or work experience has been significantly advanced in the nominee's workplace as a result of the nominee's efforts.
7. The nominee is an active member of professional organizations.
8. The nominee has contributed to the profession by presenting at professional conferences, seminars, and/or workshops or published articles in print or through electronic media.
9. The nominee's work can be used as a model.
10. The nominee's work reflect the mission and purpose of ICE.
11. The nominee will represent ICE well in all forums.
12. If selected as the winner, the nominee will provide an article for the ICE INTouch Newsletter.
13. If selected as the winner, the nominee will serve on the Technology Education Advocate Selection Committee.
